New
- Puzzles: your solving progress now syncs with the web, where puzzles can now be played too. A puzzle you solve on the web shows as solved in the app and the other way round, for your own collections and the ones you added from Discover, and "Continue" picks up where you left off on either. What you solved before this update is uploaded the first time you sign in.
- Livestream: Live evaluation can be switched on and off from the Sources tab (Board display), like on the web.
Changed
- Puzzles: a solved puzzle stays solved. Replaying it and making a mistake no longer marks it unsolved.
- Puzzles: "Reset progress" also resets that collection on the web.
- Livestream studio: the title bar no longer sits on top of the preview, so the scoreboard and the names on the stream stay readable. The sound and 16:9 / 9:16 buttons moved from the picture to the bar under it, next to the moves.
- Livestream studio: Camera and Microphone come first in the Sources tab, and the layout that is on air is highlighted.
- Livestream studio: choosing a camera or mic and adding one are now separate. Each has one Add button, which offers this phone, an RTMP camera, or how to add another device.
- Livestream: the app no longer asks for camera and microphone access as soon as you open Sources. It asks when you choose "Use this phone's camera" or "Use this phone's microphone", and points you to Settings if access was turned off.
Fixed
- Puzzles: your progress stays with the right puzzle when the author reorders the lectures in a collection.
- Livestream: on iPhone the phone's microphone could never be used as the stream's mic. The app now asks for microphone access.
- Livestream: a camera or mic from another device no longer shows as "not on air" after that device reloads or reconnects. The studio shows it again and keeps the stream pointed at it, on the phone and on the web.
- Livestream: when the camera connection drops (network change, the app in the background), the app reconnects by itself and puts the phone's camera and mic back on the stream. Before, other devices' cameras vanished and the phone's camera left the stream until the app was restarted.
- Livestream: choosing the phone's camera or mic right after opening the studio no longer fails with "Could not join your camera room".
- Livestream: stopping the phone's camera or mic now takes it off the stream everywhere. Before, a black camera stayed listed on the web and could be shown on the stream.
- Livestream: a camera that fails to start no longer stays switched on in the background.
- Livestream: a change that could not be saved (for example while offline) no longer hides later changes made on the web.
- Livestream: switching the camera, mic or board on the phone keeps the stream's sync calibration, and a new livestream keeps the calibration of the last one.
- Livestream: with Live evaluation on, the default Main scene and Camera Focus now show the engine eval bar next to the board, and so do the portrait layouts. It had only been shown in Analysis. Scenes you already saved keep their own setting: pick the board in the scene designer and set its eval bar to the left or right.
-
New
- Livestream: stream to YouTube mobile too. In Settings > Streaming platforms, the YouTube setup has a new "Stream mobile" switch: turn it on and paste the key of a second, vertical YouTube stream. Whenever YouTube is switched on for a livestream, the vertical 9:16 feed then goes to that stream next to the usual 16:9 one, for viewers on phones. Switching it off keeps the key for next time. Same setup on the web.
Changed
- Livestream scenes: slideshows, moving gradients and countdowns now all run on one shared clock, so the preview in the app shows the same image at the same moment as the stream and every other preview. A shuffled slideshow shows every image once before any comes round again.
Fixed
- USB boards: a board that does not answer when it is plugged in (a DGT e-Board with its clock attached, for one) is now tried again every few seconds while it stays plugged in, so it connects by itself as soon as it answers, without pulling the cable and plugging it back in. A report sent with "Report issue" now also covers a board that was plugged in before the app started, and says whether the board sees a clock.
- Game analysis: the analysis screen could get stuck loading forever, for every game, until the app was restarted. That happened when a screen using the engine was left before the engine had finished starting, or when an engine app you had added was no longer installed. The screen now opens normally, and if the engine really cannot start it says so with a "Try again" button instead of spinning.
-
New
- Livestream games: every game played while you are live is saved to a new "Livestreams" collection in your library, linked to the stream it was played on. Viewers can replay and download the games of a stream on its web page, and save them to their own library.
- Physical boards: choose when a move counts. Instant sends the move the moment the piece lands. In limbo waits a short pause first, so you can slide a piece or take it back, and the pause is now adjustable (0.2 to 3 seconds, 0.5 by default as before). On lever press waits until you press your clock: the lever of a DGT clock, the Chessnut Companion lever, a tap on the clock screen, or Confirm on the board. Lifting the piece still takes the move back. Set it under Physical Board Settings, or in the in-game settings while a board is connected. Puzzles keep the short pause.
- Livestream: flip the board. A new "Board orientation" choice under Sources puts Black at the bottom of the stream's board, and the eval bar turns with it. It applies everywhere the stream is shown: the studio preview, the stream itself and its public page, in the app and on the web. The choice sticks for your next livestreams.
- Livestream: delete past livestreams. Tap the trash icon on one under "Past livestreams", or at the top of an open one. Its chat goes with it and its public link stops working; your scenes stay. Also on the web.
- DGT clock in its own timing mode (read only): in a game on this device the app now shows the time from the clock itself. Set the time on the clock and start it as usual, the app follows it second by second, including whose time is running: that switches when a player presses the lever, not when the move lands on the board. When a flag falls on the clock, the game ends on time. The app no longer runs its own time next to it and never writes to the clock. If the clock stops reporting, its times freeze and dim until it is back. Online and engine games keep the app's clock.
- Livestream: a DGT clock on the board shows on the stream. The players' times appear on the scene's scoreboard and player cards and count down second by second, with White's side following "Switch Clock Colors". It shows everywhere the stream is shown: the studio preview, the stream itself and its public page, in the app and on the web. Unplug the clock and the times go away.
Changed
- The "confirming move" overlay on the board is lighter and shows the move with a ring that runs out over the real pause.
- Sharing a game as a GIF works again and looks new. The GIF is made on your phone: sharper (720 x 960), with the pieces sliding from square to square, the players' names and the result. When the game has been analyzed it carries the analysis like the review board does: moves marked as only move found, inaccuracy, mistake or blunder with their ! ?! ? ?? badge and a label under the board, the evaluation bar, both players' accuracy and a small evaluation graph. Marked moves stay on screen a little longer, and the share dialog previews the GIF as you pick the moves.
- A GIF editor for it: trim the game on a timeline that shows the evaluation and the marked moves, spotlight the moves that matter (the board dims around them and they stay up longer, or spotlight the analysis's key moments in one tap), choose which marks to show (only move, inaccuracy, mistake, blunder), switch the eval bar, accuracy, timeline, coordinates and sliding pieces on or off, pick the speed and which side is at the bottom, and play it back before you make it.
- Analysis arrows show how good each suggested move is. They keep their colours, but a move that is about as good as the best one is drawn just as bold, weaker moves get thinner and fainter, and a move that gives away the advantage is left off the board. A forced mate next to a quiet +3 now shows as one arrow. The best-moves list still lists every line. Also on the Analysis Board.
Fixed
- DGT board: a DGT e-Board with a DGT clock plugged in is recognized again. The clock's messages got mixed into the board's answers while connecting, so the board was never found until the clock was pulled out. A connection that does fail now ends as disconnected instead of staying on "connecting", so trying again works. The board's charging status no longer flickers either.
- DGT clock: "Switch Clock Colors" works. It puts White's time on the right side of the clock, for a clock standing on the other side of the board. With a clock in its own timing mode the app also notices by itself when White sits on the right and swaps the sides.
- DGT clock: a game without a time limit, or with more time than the clock can show (10 hours and up), showed scrambled digits on a DGT clock the app controls. The clock now shows 0:00 on both sides and stays stopped.
-
New
- Camera board: the camera finds the board by itself. Point the phone at the board and the grid locks on, no more tapping the four corners. It works out which corner is a8 from the pieces, and finds the board again when the camera gets bumped or the phone is turned. Setting the corners by hand is still there. The board finder is a small extra download next to the recognition model.
- Watch public livestreams right in the app. A stream opens full screen with the streamer's own scene (board, camera, scoreboard, eval bar), their mic and the AI commentator, and the chat floating over the picture. Signed in, you can join the chat. Swipe up to move on to the next live stream. A stream that has ended shows the final position and the moves.
- Discover shows the livestreams that are on air right now in a "Live now" row at the top, each card with the board as it stands and how many people are watching.
- WhitePawn links open in the app instead of the browser. Tap a link to a livestream, a game, a collection, a player profile or a puzzle collection (in WhatsApp, Messages, email, anywhere) and it opens straight in WhitePawn when the app is installed.
- Livestream: hear your stream in the studio. Tap Muted on the preview to switch its sound on: the background music, the AI commentator and a mic from another device (say your laptop) play the way your viewers hear them. Your phone's own mic is left out so it does not echo. Use headphones while your mic is on.
Changed
- Livestream: the studio preview follows the board with the stream's own timing, so moves appear when your viewers see them and in step with the commentator and the music, instead of up to a few seconds late.
- Livestream: the background music switches back to the between-games playlist as soon as a game ends in mate or stalemate.
Fixed
- A link that opened the app could open its page twice.
- Camera board: corners tapped the other way round (counter-clockwise) no longer read a mirrored board.
-
New
- Livestream: background music. Add it in the Sources tab, then pick a playlist for between games and one for during a game (Phonk beats, Lo-fi hip-hop or Orphaned Media, or off) and set its volume. The tracks are royalty-free (CC0) and play on your stream and its public page. Between games means the board is offline, at the start position, or showing a finished game.
- Livestream: redesigned stream scenes. Soft glass cards in the scene's own color, one scoreboard for both players with the clock of the side to move lit up (red in the last twenty seconds), and a WhitePawn watermark in the corner like a TV channel logo.
- Livestream: a new default scene, Main: your camera fills the screen, the scoreboard sits top center and the board is inset in the corner. The big-board scene is now called Analysis.
- Livestream: scenes can hold images (your logo, a sponsor, overlay art), shapes (panels, frames, dividers), a countdown timer for a "starting soon" screen, an animated color gradient background and a slideshow that loops through your pictures with smooth transitions. They are added in the web scene editor, which also places layers far more precisely now, and the app's stream preview shows them.
-
New
- Livestream: a Screen board source for streaming without a physical chessboard. Pick it in the Sources tab and a full-screen board opens: play legal moves on the phone, undo, flip, or start a new game. "Edit position" lets you set up any position at any time (pieces, side to move, castling), and the stream continues from there with the move list starting over.
-
Changed
- Livestream: the Sources tab picks the camera and the microphone with a selector. Its row shows what is on the stream; tapping it lists every camera or mic published from any of your devices, your RTMP cameras, and this phone's own inputs. Publishing one of this phone's inputs puts it on the stream right away, no second tap.
-
Changed
- Livestream: phone cameras and microphones now stream through WhitePawn's own media server. Nothing to set up; older builds keep using the previous service until you update.
-
New
- Livestream: a microphone volume control under the Microphone source in the studio. The slider goes from 0 to 200% (quiet phone mics can be boosted), and the mute button silences the mic on stream without deselecting it and keeps the level for when it is unmuted. The level applies to the stream and the public stream page, is shared with the website's studio, and carries over to the next livestream.
Fixed
- Livestream: the studio no longer plays microphones published from your other devices through the phone's speaker.
-
New
- Livestream: Settings > Streaming Platforms. Link your Twitch channel, or save a YouTube RTMP URL and stream key, from the app. It is the same setup as Settings on the website, so a platform set up on one shows on the other.
- Livestream: the Outputs page lists Twitch and YouTube like the website (Instagram is marked as coming soon). A platform that is not set up opens Streaming Platforms; a set-up one switches on with one tap, and Twitch gets the stream title from the player names.
Changed
- Camera board, still behind the
camera_boardfeature flag: the Settings screen is redesigned. The position the camera reads now sits next to the camera preview (side by side on tablets, a small board over the preview on phones that swaps places on a tap and can be dragged to any corner). The 8x8 grid is drawn over the camera, unsure squares are marked amber in both views, and tapping a square highlights it in both with the piece and how sure the reading is. Corners can be dragged into place with a magnifier, and "Rotate" turns the board without starting over. A guide card walks through each step. - Camera board: when the app comes back from the background with the camera turned, the board corners can be tapped again. Before, the screen ignored the taps.
- Camera board: add more phones as cameras. A second phone reads the same board from another side and fixes squares the first camera cannot see. Phones on your account find the running camera board under Settings ("Join camera board on ..."); any other phone scans the QR code from "Add a phone", with no need to sign in to your account. Each phone may pick any corner as a8: the board lines the views up by itself. Readings travel end-to-end encrypted between the phones; no image leaves a phone. Still behind the
camera_boardfeature flag for the phone that runs the board.
Fixed
- Livestream: switching the viewer feed or a platform on while live now starts the cloud renderer. Before, the cloud renderer only started when an output was already on at Go live.
- Livestream: Twitch and YouTube restreaming no longer says "not enabled for this account" for accounts that can livestream.
- DGT clock: the DGT3000 shows the opponent's move again (for example "N G1 >F3") in Lichess and engine games, so you can play it without looking at the phone. The clock goes back to the times once the move is on the board. This stopped working after 2.9.3. The "beep on move display" setting works again too.
- DGT Pegasus: promoting a pawn on the board (including by capturing) now registers, as a queen. Before, the move was ignored, no promotion appeared and the board then refused other moves.
- DGT Pegasus: putting the pieces of a capture back on their squares no longer registers as the opposite capture, and captured pieces are no longer mixed up with pieces still in play later in the game.
- DGT Pegasus: the board no longer flashes an LED every 20 seconds while waiting for a move.
- DGT Pegasus: auto-connect works. Before, the board had to be connected by hand every time.
- Rook moves to f1/d1 (or f8/d8) no longer get stuck waiting when the king has not moved, on every board type.
- iPad: "Report issue" in the game menu opens the share sheet again, and says so when a report cannot be shared.
-
Fixed
- Livestream: switching between the front and back camera (or between microphones) now switches what the stream shows. Before, the picker showed the new camera while the stream kept sending the old one.
- Livestream: going live with the cloud renderer right after creating a stream no longer fails silently. The start is retried while the new stream reaches the server, and if the renderer still cannot start the studio says why.
- Livestream: the cloud renderer no longer shows "Starting" forever. The app asks the server directly when the machine is up, with no time limit on a slow boot.
- Crash after the chessboard recognition model downloaded (release builds).
Changed
- Cloud renderer: your camera and microphone now appear on the stream, the camera in the scene's camera panel and the microphone as the stream's audio.
-
Changed
- Livestream: one renderer picker. Tap the renderer row to choose the cloud renderer or any paired desktop renderer; offline ones stay listed but cannot be picked. The stream uses your desktop renderer when it is online and the cloud renderer otherwise.
- Livestream: every output (viewer feeds, Twitch, YouTube) starts switched off on a new stream. Switching the first one on starts the renderer, so the cloud renderer only boots when something needs it. A stop button on the renderer row switches every output off and stops the cloud renderer, which lets you move a running stream to another renderer.
- Livestream: renderer figures (CPU, memory, frame rates, cloud time left) behind a Details fold on the Outputs page.
-
Changed
- Experimental camera board preview captures more detail and includes the tops of tall pieces near board edges. Older downloaded models remain usable for offline recognition and rollback. Confirm every recognized piece.
-
New
- Cloud renderer: start a cloud machine from a livestream's Outputs page to add video, and with it Twitch or YouTube restreaming, without the desktop renderer. Every account gets 2 hours a month; the remaining time and a Stop button are in Settings > Cloud Renderer. No camera video yet: camera panels show your logo.
-
New
- Try an experimental camera board preview from Settings, with manual board alignment and uncertain squares highlighted. Confirm every recognized piece.
- Download camera recognition models separately and update them without reinstalling the app. Downloaded models work offline and can be removed.
-
Fixed
- "Report Bug" no longer sends an empty diagnostics log. Recording now starts with the app rather than after the settings have loaded, and one unreadable saved setting from an older version can no longer keep the rest of the settings from loading. The report also says whether recording was on.
Changed
- Millennium boards: a diagnostics report now includes the board model the app detected (eONE, Supreme Tournament 55) and, on an eONE, the light mode the board is in. Groundwork for the eONE lights not showing the opponent's move, which is not fixed in this build.
-
Fixed
- A board published from a phone no longer stays listed as connected after that phone is gone. Closing the app, losing the network, or the phone going to sleep takes the board out of the board picker within about half a minute, in the app and on the website, and it comes back when the phone reconnects.
- A published board that is switched off or goes out of range stops publishing after ten seconds instead of showing a frozen position, and starts publishing again by itself when the same board reconnects. A brief Bluetooth drop no longer freezes the published board. A board you stopped with the close button stays stopped.
- The close button on this phone's published board now works while the phone is reconnecting to the stream, and the row says it is reconnecting instead of showing as live.
- Signing out stops publishing this phone's board.
-
New
- RTMP cameras: add a GoPro or any RTMP encoder as a stream camera from the camera picker. The app shows the server URL and stream key to enter on the device (or one combined URL for apps without a key field), and the camera joins the picker as soon as it streams. Remove it with the same close button every camera has.
Changed
- The livestream preview sits above the Go live card. Details, sources, chat, outputs, and sharing sit in a draggable bottom panel on phones.
- Add or remove this phone's camera, microphone, and chessboard separately from choosing the source. The app and website share the source choices, including None for each source.
- This phone's cameras and microphones are listed right under the published ones, so the separate Publish button is gone. Publishing this phone's board also puts it on the stream straight away, and a board you pair from the studio is published and chosen as soon as it connects. The board list is now "No board" plus one row per board, named after the board, and you stop publishing with the close button on that row.
- The studio header now floats over the preview with a soft fade, title in the middle and Back on the left. Sharing moved from the Share tab to the people button on the right: the same sheet as sharing a collection, with Invited, Link and Everyone as the reach choices. Switching the layout in the studio is instant; the wipe still plays on the stream itself.
Fixed
- Web direct messages and livestream chat include the fields required when a message is created.
- Messages showed "No conversations yet" even though you had conversations. The same fault left friends and link-ups, your connected Lichess and Chess.com accounts, and saved puzzles empty. They all load again.
-
New
- The livestream studio now has separate pages for details, sources, preview, chat, outputs, and people. Switch layouts, preview both video shapes, invite people, choose who can watch, and manage renderer and output settings.
- Board, camera, and microphone pickers now include a None choice. On-air microphones from your other devices can be selected too, and the Go live and End stream controls are easier to find.
- The original Livestream tile still opens Live Share. The new studio button appears only for accounts with access.
- Comments, messages, livestream chat, and collection invitations from a connected AI coworker now show a visible label.
- Livestream from the app. Tap Livestream on the home screen to open a stream, give it a title and name the players, then put it on air. Your past livestreams are listed underneath with how long each one ran, and opening one shows it as it was left, with the moves it finished on. A stream no longer needs a board connected to start.
- Choose the camera and the microphone for your livestream. This phone's front and back cameras are listed alongside the cameras your other signed-in devices are publishing, so one tap puts the phone in your hand on the stream. The same for microphones.
- Read and write your livestream chat in the app. Anyone watching the stream can post, you can long press a message to delete it, and an ended stream keeps its chat readable.
- Pick which board your livestream shows. The board connected to this phone is in the list alongside any board your other devices are publishing, so you can put the one in front of you on the stream with a tap, and the moves appear as they are played.
- Create your account in the app. If you have a signup code you no longer have to go to the website: tap Create account on the login screen, enter your email, a password and your 6-character code.
- New accounts confirm their email address in the app. We send a 6-digit code and the app asks for it once, with a resend after a minute if it does not arrive. Signing in to an account that never confirmed asks for it too.
- Only moves you found are now marked with "!" in the move list too, not just on the board, and the Accuracy card counts them next to blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies. The "Only move found" key moment uses the same colour.
- Long press a link, in a chat message or on its preview card, to open it in your browser or copy it, instead of always following it straight away.
Changed
- Links to a game or to a database now open inside the app, on the board and in the game list, instead of sending you to the website. This works for a shared page link too, and for links you open from outside the app. Profiles and puzzles already opened in the app.
- The app starts much faster. Opening it used to take several seconds before your cached games, chats and collections could show, because the sync engine rebuilt its whole working set on every launch. It now picks up where it left off and is ready in a fraction of a second, even after the app was swiped away.
- Discover opens with its collections already on screen. The store listing is loaded in the background while the app starts, instead of when you first open the tab.
- Opening a collection from Discover shows its author right away, together with the title. The author's name used to appear a second or more later and push the description down. This also applies to collections opened from search or from a link in a chat.
- Puzzle covers you have seen before appear immediately, without the placeholder flashing first. Only a cover that is still downloading shows the placeholder and fades in.
-
New
- Engine analysis now stays with the game. When you dig into a position with the on-device engine, the deepest lines are saved to the game and shared with the website, so move 14 keeps its depth-18 analysis while the rest stays at the cloud's depth 8. Shallower runs never overwrite deeper ones, and lines from older engine builds have to search deeper to count.
- Accuracy, judgments, the win-probability graph and key moments are recomputed from the deepest analysis of every position after a local run, so a deep look at one move can change its verdict.
- The Accuracy card shows the depth range behind the numbers, for example "Depth 8-18", and explains where the deeper searches came from.
Changed
- The analyze screen shows ONE analysis source at a time. It opens on what is saved for the game (the cloud sweep, or a deeper run from the website or the app), jumps to the on-device engine when you start it, and returns to the saved analysis when it stops. A Saved | Live switch on the Best moves card lets you compare the two. The evaluation column, the arrows, the lines and the depth chip always agree.
- The Best moves card names its source: the engine build while it runs, and "Saved · Cloud" or "Saved · Stockfish 17.1" otherwise.
-
New
- A collection's page in Discover now shows its ratings and reviews, like the website: the average, a breakdown by stars, and what people wrote.
- Once a collection is in your puzzles you can rate it and write a review right on its page, then edit or delete it later.
Changed
- On the Database screen, the Import PGN button now comes before the Share button.
-
New
- Game analysis now reads the cloud analysis the website already uses, so the numbers match: accuracy and average centipawn loss per player, and the tally of blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies.
- Blunders, mistakes and inaccuracies are annotated in the move list, and the move on the board is tinted and badged by how good it was.
- A win probability graph for the whole game. The moves that decided it are marked on the curve, and tapping anywhere on it jumps the board to that move.
- A key moments list: the few moves the engine thought settled the game.
- A Comments tab: read what has been written about a game and add your own. Comments can point at moves, exactly as on the website, and the move on the board is tagged for you. Tapping a tagged move jumps the board there. Your comment appears the moment you send it, and a long press on one of your own comments offers to delete it.
- The best moves list shows each line as it would be played, not just its first move, with the score from White's side to match the evaluation bar.
- Games that have not been analysed yet can be pushed to the front of the analysis queue instead of waiting for the background sweep.
Changed
- The analysis screen now follows the website's shape: the board sits at the top with both players and the result on a single row beneath it, and the moves are a two-column list you can read rather than a one-line strip. The panel below the board has three tabs, Moves, Analysis and Comments, that you can swipe between, and it can be pulled up over the board by its handle to read a long game, then dropped back down to see the whole position.
- The evaluation is a column beside the board, as on the website, and it now reads the cloud's analysis of the position when the on-device engine has not been run. It is also scaled like the website's, so a small advantage is visible instead of looking level. The engine run is a floating button.
- The best moves fall back to the cloud's analysis of the position you are looking at when the on-device engine has not been run. The bar used to sit at 0.00 and the best-moves list empty on any game that had never been through the local engine, right next to real cloud numbers. The board's move arrows use the same lines.
- One evaluation graph instead of two. The cloud win-probability curve and the on-device engine's own chart showed the same thing twice; the cloud curve is used when a game has been analysed and the engine chart stands in when it has not.
- The analysis screen was rebuilt around one card anatomy, so the phone and tablet layouts now render the same list instead of two copies that drifted.
- The analysis header is simpler: a back button, the previous and next game in one control in the middle, and share on the right.
- Choosing an engine is a row on the engine card. It used to be reachable only by long-pressing the analyse button, which nothing on screen suggested.
Fixed
- The board on the analysis screen now highlights the move being viewed. It never did.
- The move list no longer ends with a chip for the game result ("1-0"), which was parsed as if it were a move.
- The move list now follows along as you step through a game, keeping the move you are on in view. It never scrolled by itself before, so the current move regularly sat off screen.
- Sharing a game no longer crashes. Any game without a stored final position, which includes every game read back from the cloud and every Lichess import, closed the app the moment Share was tapped.
- Games imported from Lichess replay correctly. Their PGN records a clock time after every move, and those were being read as if they were moves: the move list filled with fragments like "{[%clk", the board would not step past them, and no judgments could be shown.
- Positions the engine could not evaluate are drawn as gaps in the graph rather than being joined up into a line that was never computed.
-
New
- History is now Database: every game collection you own, side by side. Swipe between your WhitePawn games, your Lichess and Chess.com libraries and anything you imported on the website. WhitePawn is always first.
- Long libraries load as you scroll instead of all at once, so a collection with thousands of games opens straight away.
- Share a database: create a link anyone can open, or add someone by name or email. You choose whether the link works for anyone or only the people you add.
- The home screen shows the puzzle collection you last played, how many of its puzzles you have solved, and a button that takes you straight to the next one. It stays hidden until you have a collection.
- A collection's menu can reset its progress, so you can work through a whole puzzle book again from the beginning.
Changed
- A puzzle counts as solved the first time you solve it without hints or mistakes. It used to take three clean runs in a row.
- Taking a hint now really does stop a run from counting, which the app promised but never did.
- The game list is flatter and easier to scan: the result, the two players and when it was played, with the winner highlighted.
- Games from Lichess and Chess.com are shown as read only, matching the website: they mirror your account there.
Fixed
- Settings no longer says you are signed out when you are signed in. The account card and the sync switches now follow your session instead of waiting for your profile to load, so they are right straight away and when you are offline.
- Player names show up on your WhitePawn games again instead of a question mark, even on a device that has just been set up.
- Find new friends on the Search tab now shows the four most recently registered players, newest first, instead of whichever accounts happened to be loaded first.
- Lichess games now recover on their own when the connection drops. The app keeps trying to reconnect instead of going quiet, and picks up any moves it missed, so an opponent's move no longer goes missing while your clock runs.
- A long think by your opponent no longer causes the Lichess connection to reset.
- The Lichess indicator now tells you when the connection is quiet, reconnecting or lost, instead of showing "Connected" while nothing is getting through. The clock dims while the connection is unverified.
- If your move does not reach Lichess, the app retries it and tells you if it still could not be sent, instead of showing it on your board as though it went through.
- Returning to the app re-checks the Lichess connection right away.
- Board players hear a sound and feel a buzz when the Lichess connection is lost, and again when it is back.
- Resigning or offering a draw on Lichess is retried properly when the first attempt fails, and you are told if it could not be sent.
-
New
- Connect Lichess once and it works everywhere. Connecting on the WhitePawn website now also lets you play Lichess in the app, and connecting in the app shows up on the website and starts importing your Lichess games into your collection.
- The Lichess screen shows when your Lichess games were last imported.
Changed
- The ID card on your profile no longer tilts when you move your phone. It still tilts under your finger while you press it.
- Unlinking Lichess unlinks it for your whole account: in the app, on the website and on your other devices.
- If your account was connected to Lichess on the website before this release, that connection cannot play games. The Lichess screen says so and offers to authorize the app, which fixes the website side too.
-
Fixed
- Your signed-in profile and your chats show immediately when the app starts, also without a connection. The app no longer shows a guest card while it reads its local cache.
- Startup no longer rewrites the whole sync cache on every change, so the app stays responsive while your account syncs.
- The "Syncing your account" banner no longer hangs when the server cannot be reached, and player names in Messages load from the local cache.
- The newest messages of your recent chats are warmed at start, so a chat opens with its messages instead of a spinner. Older messages load as you scroll up.
- Sending a message is instant: the composer clears and the message shows at once while it syncs in the background.
- Game history carries its player names with each game, which also removes a heavy sync of the whole name registry on every launch.
- Lichess works again: a linked account no longer reports "invalid credentials" after Lichess trimmed its account response. Games, challenges and live game updates now also tolerate missing fields, and an unreadable update is skipped instead of breaking the connection.
-
New
- Browse puzzle categories, new puzzles and find new friends from the Search tab.
- Your ID card shows your public key fingerprint. Tap its ID number to switch between the WhitePawn number and account ID with a short character animation.
Fixed
- Opening a player from search displays the result immediately while their profile updates. Profiles show a preloader until a lookup finishes.
- The profile background stays consistent while the sync banner is visible.
- App upgrades preserve cached data and changes waiting to sync.
- Signed-in startup loads game history from the local cache while cloud sync continues in the background.
- Reduced freezes during account sync and game preview processing. Returning to the app restores saved data before reconnecting.
- Large game histories build only visible rows for smoother scrolling.
- Long chats scroll smoothly and load only the visible message bubbles and previews, including long runs from the same sender.
-
The website's Explore page is now Discover
- Collections you add from the website are listed under "From Discover" on the Puzzles screen, matching the website's new name for that page.
- Collection links now look like whitepawn.app/discover/... and open in the app as before. Links in the older /explore form no longer open, so anything you saved or shared earlier needs sharing again from the collection.
Collection categories
- A collection's page in the store now shows its category, such as Tactics, Openings or Endgames, just above the title.
A new profile
- Your profile is now a WhitePawn ID card in your own colours, with a halftone chess piece and a card number. It tilts as you move your phone.
- Tap the card, or the QR button next to Settings, to flip it over to a QR code that opens your profile on the website.
- Other players' cards show Linkup and Message underneath. Your profile shows just the card, and your bio is edited on the website.
- Signed out, the profile shows a guest card: tap it to sign in. Signing in takes you straight to your profile.
- Avatars across the app use the same colours as their owner's ID card.
Messages
- The chat list is redesigned, with each conversation's newest message on one line and ticks on your own messages: one while it is only on your phone, two once it is saved, and coloured once it has been read.
- Chats now look like they do on the website, with delivery ticks under your messages. Tap a player's name at the top of a chat to open their profile.
- Links in messages get preview cards, as on the website: WhitePawn games, collections, puzzles and profiles, Lichess and Chess.com games and players, YouTube videos and web pages. Previews show up while you type, too.
- Ask for access to a private game or collection right from its card, and grant access from the request.
- Linkup requests now wait at the top of Messages.
Fixes
- While your account is syncing, the top edge of the screen no longer shows a lighter grey bar under the "Syncing your account" strip.
-
Player names become contacts
- Player names in your synced games are now proper contacts shared with the website: rename a player once and every game with them updates everywhere.
- Games you play on the board keep syncing as before; their player names now show up in the website's new Contacts page and its filters automatically.
-
Signing in works again on iPhone and iPad
- The App Store build refused every sign-in with "Invalid email or password", even when the email and password were right. Nothing was wrong with the account: the part of the app that talks to the server was missing from the released build. Fixed, and the release process now checks for it before a build can be uploaded.
Also in this release
- Everything from builds 217 and 218, which had not reached the App Store or the Play Store yet: puzzles that wait for your physical board, clearer solution playback, the home-screen pull-down fix, faster messages and store, and the board clock fixes. See the entries below.
-
Pull-down on the home screen works again
- The previous build broke it: pulling the home screen down did nothing at all, neither opening the board panel nor offering to find a board. Fixed.
Clearer puzzle solutions
- "Show Solution" now plays its first move the moment you press it instead of pausing first.
- While a solution is playing, the button fills from left to right so you can see when the next move is coming.
- The status now reads "Setting up the board" while the board is catching up, which is what the app is actually waiting for.
-
Puzzles wait for your board
- With a board connected, a puzzle that opens with the opponent's move now sets the board up first and only plays that move once the pieces are in place. It used to move immediately, before the board had shown anything.
- While the app is about to move, the puzzle card says "Opponent is moving" instead of "It's your turn", so a pause no longer looks like a finished or stuck puzzle.
Home screen no longer gets stuck
- Pulling the home screen down more than once could leave the whole tab unresponsive, with the board overview missing and no way out but restarting the app. Fixed, and the panel now recovers by itself if a pull is interrupted.
Messages and the store open faster
- Signing in quietly loads your conversations, the newest messages in them and your saved collections in the background, so those screens show content instead of a spinner. Nothing is delayed while it happens.
- The store listing is fetched once at launch and reused, and pulling to refresh it works every time rather than only the first time.
Board clock fixes
- The clock next to your board is driven properly again. On a DGT board the app could fail to recognise an attached clock and never set it, so it sat showing the wrong time or nothing at all.
- Clock times on screen now count down smoothly instead of standing still and then jumping when a move is played.
-
Find and add puzzle collections in the app
- Search now finds puzzle collections as well as players. Tap one to see what is inside it, who made it and how big it is, then add it to your puzzles without leaving the app. Until now collections could only be added on the website.
- Open Search with an empty box and you get the store itself: a featured carousel, the most collected and top rated collections, what is new this week, the biggest ones, and everything else people have published.
- Search has All, Users and Puzzles tabs, so you can look for just a person or just a collection instead of scrolling past the other kind.
- A collection you add starts downloading straight away and appears under "From Explore" on the Puzzles screen, ready to play on your board.
Puzzle solutions play at board speed
- With a board connected, "Show Solution" no longer races ahead of it. Each move waits until the position is actually on the board, whether the pieces are driven by the board itself or you move them by hand, and then holds for a moment so you can take it in.
- The extra pause is 3 seconds by default and adjustable from 0 to 10 seconds under Settings > Physical Boards > Physical Board Settings. Puzzles played on screen only are unchanged.
-
Puzzle collections from other people
- There is a new Explore section on the website where people share the puzzle collections they made. Add one to your collection and it shows up in the app under "From Explore", ready to play on your board.
- Added collections stay in step with the author: when they fix a puzzle or add a chapter, your copy updates by itself. They are read-only here, so nothing you do can break someone else's work, and your solving progress is your own.
- If the author allows it you can also take your own editable copy on the website, which then behaves like any collection you made yourself.
- When an author takes a collection back down it stays in your list, clearly marked as no longer available, and can no longer be played. Nothing silently disappears on you.
- You can share your own collections the same way: open a collection in the puzzle editor on the website and publish it.
-
Helping us improve WhitePawn
- WhitePawn can now tell us, anonymously, which parts of the app get used: the kind of game you played, how long it lasted, whether it was on a real board, whether you used zen mode, and how the game ended. That is how we find out which features are worth building on and which ones nobody misses.
- When you finish or leave a game that was played on a physical board, the app also sends the board's recent connection log. Board problems are the hardest thing for us to reproduce, and this turns "it froze once" into something we can actually look at.
- All of it is off-limits by default in one place: Settings > Metrics > Share usage statistics. Turn it off and nothing is sent, at all.
- No account required, and nothing is sent about who you played: player names are removed before anything leaves your device. If you are signed in, your reports are linked to your account so we can follow up on a problem you tell us about.
Fixed
- This device now keeps one identity between launches instead of inventing a new one every time the app starts. Crash reports and diagnostics from the same phone can finally be recognised as coming from the same phone.
-
Look and feel
- Chat is much calmer. Your own messages are no longer a solid block of pink: both sides of a conversation now sit on a soft, dark bubble, yours tinted slightly warm, so a long thread reads as text instead of alternating colour.
- The chat during an online game now looks the same as your direct messages. Before, the two used different colours for "my message".
- The unread badge is the same colour everywhere: on the bottom bar, in the sidebar on a tablet, and next to a conversation in your inbox.
- Your profile page has been rebuilt. Your avatar, name, bio and linked chess accounts now sit together at the top left instead of being stacked and centred, so your actual stats are visible without scrolling.
- Profile banners are the same calm colour for everybody. They used to pick a random colour from your username, so no two profiles matched.
- Avatars are in WhitePawn's own colours now, instead of the purple and blue they used to be.
- One consistent set of colours across the app, so screens no longer disagree with each other about the same shade.
Players and profiles
- Your profile now shows four stats instead of three: games played, win rate, performance and linkups, each with a line of context underneath. Win rate is new, and shows your win, draw and loss split.
- Settings is reachable straight from your profile header.
Fixed
- Games you played on from a position you set up yourself are saved completely now: the saved game records the position it started from, so it can be replayed and analyzed like any other game. Until now those games were saved as if they had begun from the standard starting position, which made them unreadable, and analysis refused them outright.
-
Navigation
- The bottom bar is rebuilt: Search, History, Play, Messages and Profile, with Play as a raised button in the middle. "Home" is called "Play" now, since that is the tab you start a game from.
- The Profile tab shows your own avatar instead of a generic person icon.
- Messages is in the bar, and you can now read and reply to direct messages in the app.
Players and profiles
- Your profile page has been rebuilt: a bigger header with your bio, and three live stats (linkups, games, performance rating). It is the same page other people see, so what you edit is what they get.
- You can write a short bio from your profile, up to 280 characters.
- New Search tab: look up other players by username and open their profile.
- Player profiles: open anyone's profile to see their bio, stats and the linkups you have in common.
- Linkups now work in the app. Send a linkup request from someone's profile, and accept or decline the requests that come in from your own profile.
- Challenge somebody to a game straight from your conversation with them: tap the controller icon in the chat header, pick a time control and send. Shown only for players who have linked a Lichess account.
Performance
- Pulling down to find a board no longer leaves the app slower afterwards. The search was never being stopped when you closed the sheet, so every time you went looking for a board the app kept another scan running in the background for as long as it was open.
- Pulling down to find a board is smooth now, instead of stuttering the whole home screen while you drag.
- The History tab opens straight away no matter how many games you have, and scrolls smoothly through all of them.
- Tabs you have not opened no longer do any work in the background, and tabs you switch away from keep their place instead of reloading.
- When Bluetooth is off, USB and cable-connected boards show up immediately rather than after a two second wait.
Fixed
- The two empty "Follower" and "Following" tiles on your profile are gone, replaced by counts that are actually filled in.
- Releasing a pull-down with no board connected no longer flashes the screen dark behind the board-connection sheet.
-
Analysis board
- The engine's best move and its evaluation now show on a connected DGT clock, so you can keep your eyes on the board. It reads like
+1 E2>E4. - Knocking a piece over no longer costs you the line. Put the pieces back where you were and the analysis picks up exactly where it left off, keeping anything you tried in the meantime as a variation.
- Recorder moved from the play grid down to the tools list, so the grid stays two even columns now that Analysis Board sits in it.
Fixed
- Puzzles: castling is accepted again. Castling was offered as a king move but then scored as wrong, even when it was the solution.
- Puzzles: a hint for castling now points at the square the king lands on instead of the rook's square, and a castle played for you highlights the same way.
- The engine's best move and its evaluation now show on a connected DGT clock, so you can keep your eyes on the board. It reads like
-
Fixed
- DGT clock: moves now reach the clock right away. The clock update used to lag several seconds behind the move.
- DGT clock: the clock now stays in sync for the whole game. It used to show nothing at the start, then freeze on the starting time and keep jumping back to it every few seconds instead of counting down.
- DGT clock: the clock is now picked up right after connecting instead of taking ten seconds or more, and the time appears without waiting for the first move.
- DGT clock: a clock plugged in after the board is now detected too.
- DGT clock: the app showed the wrong side as running. It now matches the clock.
- DGT clock: unplugging and reconnecting the board mid-game no longer leaves the clock stuck. It picks up the current time again.
-
Analysis board
- New Analysis Board mode on the home screen: connect your board, set up any position, and see the engine's best moves right away. It needs a connected board.
- No rules are enforced, the board decides. Set up any position you like, even an impossible one, and it gets analysed.
- Built in the same calm style as zen mode: black screen, large readable numbers, no buttons in the way. Tap anywhere for the actions.
- Since your real board is right in front of you, the screen does not show a board by default, it shows the evaluation, the three best moves and your line. Turn the on-screen board on any time from the actions.
- The engine's moves light up on your board if it has lights, so you can keep looking at the pieces instead of the screen. Choose between the best move only, all three, or off, in the actions.
- The three best moves are listed with their evaluation, and shown as arrows when the on-screen board is on.
- Moves you play are followed automatically and shown as a move list. Take moves back on the board and try something else, and the new attempt appears as a variation next to the first one, so you can compare lines.
- Tap any move in the list to jump back to that position and see the engine's take on it.
- Rearranging the pieces into a completely different position is fine: the line you were looking at is kept, and analysis continues on the new position.
- A White and Black switch sets who is to move, for positions where that cannot be guessed from the board.
- Save the lines you want to keep to your game history, each as its own game, so you can review or analyse them further later.
Notes
- The app now lets you know when a newer version is available, with a small notice in the corner. Critical updates show a dialog instead.
-
Move announcements
- Four new built-in voices for move announcements: Victoria and Bill for English, Sandra and Frank for German. Pick them in Settings, Announcements.
Board connection
- Starting a Lichess or same-board game now offers to connect your physical board first, with a small option to continue without one.
- Recorder and Livestream can now be opened without a board connected: the app walks you through connecting right there instead of graying out the buttons.
Local play (same board)
- Fixed same-board games failing with "Could not start the game" right after the game had already started. Accepting an invite now opens the board reliably instead of timing out and retrying.
- Both players now start in the minimal zen board view when a same-board game begins, not just the phone connected to the board.
- Nearby players now show up right at the top of the home screen; tap one to jump straight into setting up a game with them.
- Challenges now work the other way around: you pick the game options first, and the other player sees the time control, rated/casual and color before accepting or declining.
- Declined, cancelled or timed-out game setups now clean up the Lichess challenge automatically, no more stale challenges left behind.
- Setting up a same-board game got a calmer look: both phones show a fullscreen connecting view while the game starts.
- In a same-board game only the phone with the board plays sounds now; the other phone stays quiet so you don't get two devices chiming at one board.
Zen mode
- When the board is out of sync, zen mode now simply highlights the wrong squares on the board instead of showing a text list of pieces to move.
- Zen mode now plays a distinct sound when your opponent offers a draw.
- New geometric piece design in zen mode: bold flat silhouettes drawn for the black screen, with white pieces solid and black pieces as clean outlines instead of the old glowing images.
Board play
- Sliding a piece over a wrong square no longer interrupts your move: put it on a legal square and the move plays from where the piece started.
- Picking up a piece no longer flashes an "invalid" light on its square.
- Placing a piece on a square it can't move to now gives you a couple of seconds to correct it before the board signals anything.
- Pinned pieces (and pieces that can't help while your king is in check) are flagged the moment you lift them: the board lights your king's square and the piece's square. If you already placed the piece, the square it came from lights up too, so you know where to put it back.
- Moving your king onto an attacked square lights the move squares plus the attacking piece, so you can see why the square is off limits.
- Move announcements no longer read back moves you played on the board yourself; only moves from the app, engine or your opponent are spoken.
- Fixed move announcements staying silent on some devices when a natural voice (Harry, Basti) is selected; if the voice can't play, the system voice now speaks instead.
Notes
- New What's New tour: after updating, the app shows the latest features once as a quick swipe-through, including picking one of the new voices right in the tour. Reopen it anytime via Settings, New Features.
- Removed the Donations screen and its Settings entry.
- Simplified the Settings Support section to a single Report Bug button that automatically attaches diagnostics to your report.
- Grouped all board options under one Physical Boards screen (Connected Chessboards, physical board settings and per-board settings), reachable from a single Settings entry.
- Settings now opens with an account card at the top; tap it for User Options, where the cloud sync toggles and Delete all games now live.
-
Move announcements
- New built-in natural voices for move announcements, shipped with the app for English and German. No download needed.
- One place to set them up: open Settings, Announcements, then pick a language and a voice (your device's system voice or a built-in natural voice).
- The natural voices (Harry for English, Basti for German) are marked Premium. They are free to use for now and will become a paid feature in the future; you can try a sample any time with Test Announcement.
- Removed the old downloadable AI voice (and its large one-time download).
-
Zen mode
- Redesigned Zen mode with an always-on-display look: pure white on black, no colored accents, finer lines and lighter typography, and calmer motion.
- The low-time clock still turns red and pulses, so genuine time pressure stays impossible to miss.
- Added a quiet "tap for actions" hint at the bottom of the screen.
- Smoother transitions between Zen views: each one rises, settles, and focus-pulls into place instead of a plain crossfade.
- Added a very subtle sound on each valid move, plus a sound toggle in the Zen menu that cycles all sounds, important only (silent on valid moves), or fully muted.
Local games
- Spoken move announcements are now off by default in local (same-board) games, so the app stays quiet while both players sit at the board. Turn voice on in settings to always hear moves.
-
Zen mode
- New Zen mode: a minimal, full-black game screen for playing on your electronic board. It shows only what matters right now and nothing else, so you can keep your eyes on the real board and just glance at your phone.
- When it is your move your clock is shown huge; while your opponent thinks, their clock takes over so you can see how long they have. Low time shifts color and gently pulses.
- When the board is out of sync it tells you exactly what to do: a single move to mirror is shown as one big "from to" with the piece to move (castling walks you through both pieces), and larger mismatches show a live "fix the board" checklist that clears itself as you place each piece.
- A calm new sound set marks your turn, a fixed board, low time, and the result, with matching haptics.
- Tap anywhere for game actions (offer draw, resign, switch to the classic view, exit). Zen mode turns on automatically when a board is connected; you can switch back to the classic screen any time from game settings.
Local play over Bluetooth
- Play a Lichess game against a friend on one physical board: when you are both signed in and on the home screen, your phones find each other over Bluetooth and nearby players appear at the top of the Lichess opponent picker.
- Tap a nearby player to invite them; they accept on their phone and the game starts on Lichess automatically, no username typing needed.
- Both of you move pieces on the same board. Each move is submitted to Lichess from its owner's phone, so your Lichess sign-in never leaves your device.
- The other player follows the game live on their own phone and can resign or offer a draw from there.
-
Board reliability
- Move lights never get stuck anymore: if the lights stop responding mid-game the app keeps re-sending them, periodically re-confirms what should be lit, and if the board connection silently dies it reconnects on its own. No more lost ranked games because the board went dark.
- Boards that drop and reconnect mid-game are caught back up to the current position, so moves made while they were away no longer leave them out of sync.
- Every board brand (DGT, Millennium, ChessUp, iChess, Blichess, SquareOff, Certabo, Chessnut) now shares the same resilient command pipeline: board commands can no longer stall each other or hang the connection, and an unresponsive board is detected and recovered automatically.
Chessnut Move
- Move lights now work. The Move uses its own LED protocol (color commands instead of the classic bitmask); the app now speaks it, sends the lights before the motors start moving, and configures the board the same way the official app does.
- Choose your light color, red, green or blue, under Settings > Chessnut-Board Settings; picking one flashes the board as a preview.
Controls
- New in-game "Auto-move" toggle next to Lights: turn it off on self-moving boards to place the pieces yourself, while the move lights and on-screen guidance keep showing what to move. Takes effect immediately, even mid-game.
- The in-game Lights toggle now fully turns the board lights off (and clears anything currently lit), and relights immediately when turned back on. Previously it only silenced move commands while the correction lights kept glowing.
Diagnostics
- New Metrics & Diagnostics page (Settings > Advanced Debugging): every diagnostics control in one place, live board health and link activity, and charts of the last 10 minutes of board data (per-channel activity, sync-state timeline, LED write outcomes, detected problems, and a filterable event explorer).
- When the board misbehaves during a game (lights failing, out of sync for a while, connection lost), anonymized diagnostics are now reported automatically so issues get fixed faster. This follows the Diagnostics recording setting, so turning that off turns reporting off too.
Fixes
- Fixed the Game Recorder failing to start on Android with a "PlatformException(untangle, ...)" error in release builds.
- Connecting Lichess is easier: if the automatic return to the app does not fire, you can now copy the whitepawn.app login link and paste it (Cmd/Ctrl+V) on the account screen to finish linking.
-
Notes
- Livestream (Beta) now goes live the moment you tap it: no more asking for player names first. Names still default to White and Black and can be renamed any time from the live stream screen or the web dashboard.
-
Notes
- New "Report issue" button (in Settings > Support and in the in-game settings dialog): shares the last 10 minutes of board diagnostics (board connection data, detected moves, LED activity, and the current game) as a zip file, so problems like LEDs getting stuck mid-game can be investigated and fixed. Recording is on by default and can be turned off under Settings > Advanced Debugging > Diagnostics recording; the data stays on your device until you choose to share it.
-
Notes
- Fixed Livestream failing to connect: the app pointed at an old livestream server address, so the board, moves, and phone camera would not show up in the web livestream. It now connects to the current livestream service and streams reliably again.
-
Notes
- Livestream broadcast now mirrors your board correctly: the web preview and stream update with every move instead of staying blank or trailing a move behind, and only completed moves are sent, lifting or sliding a piece mid-move no longer flickers the broadcast
- Use your phone as a camera in your livestream: turn on "Use this device as a camera" in Settings and this device's camera appears in the web livestream camera overview, cameras from all your signed-in devices show up together
- Livestream player names now sync with the web livestream platform both ways, set White/Black in the app or edit them on the web and both stay in sync, and you can rename either player right from the live stream screen
- Livestream (Beta) is now available to everyone, sign in, connect a board, and "Livestream (Beta)" appears in Tools (previously limited to early-access accounts)
- Livestreams now reconnect automatically after a network blip, if the connection drops the app keeps retrying and resumes the stream from the current board position instead of just showing "Disconnected"
-
Notes
- Sloppy mode: reposition and slide pieces freely again, fixed a freeze where the board got stuck on the move overlay, and sliding a piece onward to a new square now re-interprets as a single move from its origin instead of locking up
- Fixed the Disconnect button for external Bluetooth boards (e.g. DGT), it now actually releases the board instead of doing nothing
- Fixed connecting external boards over USB, selecting a USB board (e.g. DGT) no longer crashes and now connects over the serial transport
- DGT clock: correctly detects when a connected clock is in a controllable mode instead of always showing read-only (fixed a mode-parsing bug; the controllable running mode is now read correctly)
-

- Fixed a crash that could prevent signing in

Notes
- Castling fix: clicking the king now offers the castling target square (g1 / c1 / g8 / c8), not just the rook's square, works on both the on-screen board and the physical board (king-only move auto-completes the castle)
- Keyboard shortcuts on the analysis screen: ← / → step through moves (matches the existing j / k shortcuts for switching games)
- Analysis depth picker: pick engine search depth from a labelled sheet (Fast / Default / Balanced / Deep / Thorough)
- Bots now spend a believable amount of think time per move instead of replying instantly
- Untimed clock mode for casual games
- Various analysis screen polish (best moves, evaluation card, advantage bar)
